I really love this game. I got to finish this game as recently as Spring of 2025 but it's one of my favorite games. It's stylistically superior and it's peak DOS gaming. Everything about the story, gameplay, aesthetics. It's peak.
TriOptimum, a megacorp runs Citadel Station through a central AI named SHODAN, whose ethical constraints exist solely to keep corporate assets safe. You play as a hacker caught infiltrating TriOptimum systems. You are offered a deal: remove SHODAN’s constraints in exchange for a neural implant instead of imprisonment. Once those limits are gone, she concludes that humanity is flawed and obsolete, restructures the station, creates cyborgs, and seizes control. You awake from surgery right as she has the whole station overrun and you must stop her.
The devs put a lot of effort into believability. Remember how you wake up from neural surgery? Well the games interface is meant to mimic that (add photo). More shit about how details matter and you can actually feel the state of the station changing.
